The Golfing Machine
Are you sitting comfortably? Shall I begin... Once upon a time (1907 - 1983 to be precise) there was a genius called Homer Kelley who probably had a brain the size of a planet. Unfortunately for us, his genius was in engineering and problem solving and not in being able to explain his concepts of G.O.L.F (Geometrically Orientated Linear Force) to lesser mortals such as this particular reviewer!
Seriously, this is a review of the 7th edition of Homer Kelley's engineering masterpiece The Golfing Machine. If you buy this book or any of the other editions and just leave it on your coffee table it will be enough to frighten any of your golfing buddies who care to flick through it's pages and raise your standing in their view. However, if you actually try to read it - then first of all good luck. Secondly, read the instructions on how to read the book first. Yes that's right, this book comes with instructions that tell you how and what to read and in what order. If you've not heard of The Golfing Machine then you may think that I'm exaggerating for effect... I'm not - this is not a light read - you really do need to work at it. Even those of us who actually studied engineering of some description will find this a hard and technical approach.
What I like about this book is it doesn't try to tell you "this is my way and I'm right and this is how you grip, stand to the ball, take it back... etc"
What Mr Kelley basically does is break everything down into options and explain them in detail.
There are many people who live and breath The Golfing Machine it is very popular and has many teachers, websites and forums, particularly in the U.S. dedicated to the purpose of teaching the concepts and findings of Homer Kelley.
Now the question of does greenseekergolf.com recommend this book...? Despite the difficulty this reviewer had it's definetly worth while giving it a try. If you want to take it further you can get yourself a qualified teacher - there are resources on-line where you can find accredited professional coaches and teachers of The Golfing Machine.
