The Modern Fundamentals of GolfBen Hogan

What a great book, lovely drawings by Anthony Ravielli and with support from the famous Golf writer of the time Herbert Warren Wind.

Ben Hogan's book is a must read covering his views on the modern fundamentals. With detailed chapters on The Grip; Stance and Posture, The First Part of the Swing (which includes a section on the correct application of the waggle, followed by detailed description of the backswing), The Second Part of the Swing (covering downswing and follow through - with a really interesting section on the supination of the golfers left wrist) and Summary and Review.

His relatively simple concepts and discussions on the swing plane have been much developed in recent years. For example see "The Plane Truth" by Jim Hardy. However his writing is still very relevant today. Ben Hogan's approach is to work on the fundamentals and invest time in each one before moving on. The chapter about grip for example describes the grip in detail with beautiful drawings throughout. The attention to detail such as grip position, grip pressure and elbow positions at address are examples of the in depth knowledge Ben Hogan had of the golf swing gained through an extremely hard work ethic and passion for the game.
